Best Drinks For a Detox Cleanse and Weight Loss

Detox Cleanse is basically a method of trying to rid the body of any built up toxins in your body. These toxins can actually come from many different sources not least in the food that we are eating every day of our lives. At least we can change what we eat. But we also have toxins entering our body through the environment. This is something that we can change so readily. So, we must try and cleanse regularly to help our bodies to expunge these toxins. There are several drinks that can be of great help when you want to lose weight or just to cleanse your internal body organs. You should basically make these juices from fresh and preferably organic ingredients mostly being fruits and vegetables. Below are a few of some of the detox drinks.

Lemon drink
Lemon water is perhaps the best fruit juice for any detox cleansing diet or indeed weight loss diet. Making the lemon drink is really simple and requires only two ingredients, lemon and water; you may add sugar or honey to taste. Simply add a half a cup of water to half a cup of lemon juice and the drink is ready.
Apple and celery juice
Apples are great for any detox as they are rich in antioxidants. You will need two apples and two celery sticks, juice them up and add a bit of lemon juice to taste.
Beet juice
Beets are important as they are rich in vitamin A. To prepare the beet juice you will need one beet root, a few celery sticks, and one carrot. Juice them up and add a bit of water.
Ginger and turmeric detox tea

Both of the ingredients in this tea are very good cleansing agents. To prepare the ginger and turmeric detox tea you will need two cups of boiled water. Add a teaspoon of ginger and half a teaspoon of turmeric; you may add a little amount of maple syrup or only so as to improve the taste a bit.
Dandelion detox tea

This drink is very good as it contains several vitamins that are essential for detox like vitamin A, B, D. To prepare the tea you need to add a few teaspoons of powdered or crushed dandelion leaves to boiled water. You may add lemon to taste.
These drinks when taken occasionally are going to help you to detox cleanse your body and will help you to lose weight as part of a calorie controlled diet. For effective results you may want to consider fasting on these drinks for a period of two to three days. Any detox cleansing diet should only be undertaken once in a while.

Raw Kale Recipes - 3 Easy Recipes!

Raw kale is one of the most nutritious greens you can eat. Here are three easy raw kale recipes you can try at home.

It is one of the healthiest greens for your bones because it contains vitamin K, manganese, which promotes bone density, and it also contains calcium.

It is also the top leafy green source of the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin which promote eye health. It also contains vitamins C, B6, and B2 and is a good source of fiber.

There are many varieties including Curly, Red Winter, and Lacinto. You might also be lucky enough to find an heirloom variety at your local farmer's market as well. Experiment with different types for different tastes and textures.

Here are three easy raw kale recipes that I hope will get you to try this very nutritious vegetable.

Warning: kale is contraindicated in people taking anti-coagulants such as Warfarin.

Tropical Smoothie

1 cup pineapple
1 cup mango
1 banana
6 Lacinto or Dinosaur Kale leaves
2 cups water

Blend all ingredients in a powerful blender such as the Vitamix until completely smooth and creamy. Add honey, agave nectar, stevia or another sweetener if desired. Enjoy as a super healthy addition to your breakfast routine or as nutritious snack during the day.

Green Juice

5 ribs celery
1 large English cucumber
2-3 large Fuji apples
1/2 lime
6 Curly Kale leaves

Put all the ingredients through a juicer. My favorite juicer because of it's versatility is the Omega Vert 350. If you don't have a juicer an alternative would be to chop the cucumber, apple, and celery and place it in a blender (cucumber first) with the chopped kale and peeled lime. Blend on high for about thirty seconds and then pour and squeeze the mixture through a sprout bag over a big bowl. Sprout bags are relatively inexpensive and have a variety of uses. The sprout bag will strain out all the pulp and leave you with a smooth and silky juice. Pour the juice back into the blender carafe and then pour into a glass.

Raw Marinated Asian Salad

1 large bunch Lacinto or Dinosaur kale thinly sliced
(or another type of kale)
Juice from 1 lime (about 6 tablespoons)
1 tablespoon raw sesame seed oil
1 tablespoon cold pressed olive oil
2 tablespoons chickpea miso
1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion
(about 2 green onions green part only)
1 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
(about 1/2 large bell pepper)
handful of your favorite seaweed
[torn dulse, silky sea palm, kombu, wakame... (etc.)]
1 tablespoon black or white sesame seeds (optional)

Make sure the greens are thinly sliced, you can even shred the kale with your food processor with the slicing disk on if you wish. Put the shredded kale in a large bowl and mash in with a fork the oil, chickpea miso, shredded ginger, and lime juice. Make sure the miso and oil is well blended. You can even massage the kale with your hands to make sure the kale is well coated. Serve now or let the kale marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hr., it can even sit overnight. The longer it marinates the more tender the kale will be. When you are ready to serve, add in the bell pepper, seaweed, cucumber, green onion, and sesame seeds.

I hope you enjoyed these recipes and I hope you are inspired to eat more kale at home!

Celery Juice - Nutritious and Versatile

Among the many vegetable juices from which you can choose, one of the best is celery juice. Not only is it a good choice to mix with other juices, but it is a highly nutritious drink in its own right. Celery juice contains vitamins B and C, and a number of minerals, including potassium, phosphorus, sodium, sulphur, iron and calcium.

Celery juice has a calming effect, and this is thought to be due to the action of the essential oils which have a regulatory effect upon the nervous system. It is used for those suffering from insomnia. If the seeds of the plant are available, they could be added to the juice, for the essential oils which are so beneficial are also present in the seeds. The root, stem and leaves of the celery plant all contain the active ingredients of the plant, and are rich in nutrients.

Celery juice is a natural diuretic, and is an effective treatment for arthritis, gout and rheumatism. Large quantities of the juice can be consumed by patients with these conditions. It is also considered to be useful in cases of kidney stones and gallstones, and is a good treatment for those with bladder problems or those with constipation. It is also considered to be helpful for those who need to lose weight, inasmuch as it is said to reduce the craving for sweet foods, and when mixed with honey and consumed before a meal it is said to reduce the appetite.

Celery juice is used to balance the PH levels in the blood, and is extremely effective in the treatment of stomach acidity and reflux. High acidity in the body can result in degeneration of bones and joints which may be caused by consuming too much meat, too many grains or too many refined starches and sugars. Celery juice will aid in the elimination of calcium deposits before they can cause damage.

Celery juice can be used in hot climates for its cooling qualities and is an excellent drink to take if you need to replace minerals and fluid due to excessive perspiration. Celery juice is a good mixer, and is delicious when mixed with carrot juice or apple juice, and the injection of the combination of nutrients is so beneficial not just because of its inherent nutritional value, but also because of the fact that those nutrients are so readily assimilated when consumed in the form of juice. Celery juice is said to be good for the brain, and is also said to be useful in the treatment of hangovers.

The juice from the celery plant is useful as part of any detoxification programme, and is used also for the regulation of blood pressure. In ancient Greece, the juice from celery was consumed as a treatment for headaches. Don't forget to juice the leaves as well as the stems and roots, and when choosing your celery for juicing, try to choose a plant which has a nice green colour.

What Are the Health Benefits of Raw Juice?

Fruits and vegetables are being studied in the medical community, because of compounds known as phytochemicals, which have a wide range of disease-fighting properties. Coincidentally, many of the phytochemicals that nutritional researchers are focusing their attention on are the enzymes that play essential roles in protecting cells from damage. The problem lies in the medical community's propensity to attempt to isolate which compounds actually aid in disease control. For example: A tomato, along with vitamins C and A, also has 10,000 other chemicals in it, most which researchers are trying to isolate, identify and study. Science has begun to find that using an isolated nutrient has a much lower ability to heal and protect the body than the whole symphony of nutrients found naturally in the whole food.
http://amzn.to/2ej7NWD

Therefore, we strongly recommend eating the fruits or vegetables instead of a pill that isolates out a few nutrients.  And one of the best ways to distill out these nutrients is by juicing.

Juicing is also a tremendous aid in detoxifying and cleansing the body. Fresh juice naturally detoxifies and heals the body by stimulating and healing the elimination and detoxification organs such as the gall bladder, liver, intestines and kidneys. It is also one of the best ways to build healthy and powerful blood.  Fresh juice helps to concentrate large quantities of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other life giving nutrients that can be easily assimilated.  Fresh fruit and vegetable juice is also highly alkalinizing which facilitates the white blood cells to clean the blood and tissue of harmful bacteria, virus, and cancer cells.

Most people don't eat enough fruits and vegetables to reap the benefits they offer.  For example, The National Cancer Institute recommends eating five servings of vegetables and three of fruits each day. However, the average American eats only 1 1/2 servings of vegetables and less than one serving of fruit per day. Juicing is an excellent way to incorporate more raw fruit and vegetables into the diet easily and quickly.  This is not meant as a substitute for eating raw fruits and vegetables, but it is helpful as a way to incorporate more of these incredible foods into your diet.

In addition to it's many other benefits, fresh raw juice is a tremendous source of enzymes. Enzymes are important because they are the main catalyst for chemical reactions which run your body.  Raw juice by definition has not been processed in any way, nor has it been heated or pasteurized.  Pasteurization is the process of heating the juice to kill bacteria, but it also kills all of the beneficial enzymes in the juice. A strong push for the pasteurization of fruit and vegetable juices comes from the fact that once the juices are pasteurized they retain a much longer shelf life.  A juice that is 100% juice that can sit on the shelf for an extended period of time means one thing- that juice is now dead!  All the beneficial living components of the juice have been destroyed.

In my opinion, the best way to consume fresh, raw juice is go to a restaurant or shop that juices the vegetables and fruit in front of you or better yet, do it yourself!  Consuming raw juice is one of the healthiest things that any person can do.   Try to buy organic fruits and vegetables at local farmers markets and wash them well.  Then, include a diet of eating them whole as well as juicing them for maximum health benefits.  You will love the results!

Healthy Eating Habits - The Importance Of Breakfast

There was a time when I didn't bother about regular eating habits. I often felt too lazy to eat. This was especially the case when I had to fix my own breakfast or dinner.
Sometimes, I would skip breakfast and combine it with my lunch. Since I didn't develop any health problems, I didn't find anything wrong with my irregular eating habits. I was not convinced of the arguments advocating the importance of the breakfast.
But things changed after my marriage. My wife was very particular that I had my breakfast in the morning. Even on those days I had to leave home early, she would fix me a quick breakfast and make me eat it before I stepped out of my house. I noticed the difference a regular breakfast could make to one's health after experiencing he changes in my energy levels. Earlier, I used to get tired quite often and for a major part of the day, I would feel weak and fatigued.
But soon after my breakfast habit changed, I found that I was bubbling with energy throughout the day. I gathered information on eating habits from various articles and also from nutrition experts and physicians. I realized that I was very lucky to have carried on for a few years with my irregular eating habits. I was foolish to believe that regular eating habits were not important for a healthy living. Now, I advise everyone to have regular food habits and never to skip a breakfast.
A friend of mine shared with me an Indian dictum: Eat your breakfast alone, share your lunch with your friend and donate your dinner to your enemy! Proverbs tend to dramatize their advise but convey a clear message. This succinct message conveys in a humorous way three messages:
1) The breakfast is the most important meal and should be sumptuous
2) The lunch should not be too heavy and
3) The dinner should be light and can even be skipped.
Breakfast gets importance from the fact that it is preceded by a fairly long period of starvation during our sleep. After the dinner, there is a gap of eight to twelve hours before you have your breakfast. The body will have used up the energy from the dinner and will be waiting for infusion of more energy through food. Since some nutrients like proteins cannot be stored in the body for a long time, the body needs timely replenishment of these items. By skipping the breakfast, you are depriving your body of the much needed replenishment of energy and making it weak.
There are more reasons why you should never miss a breakfast but I feel that the one reason I have given is strong enough to make you understand the importance of breakfast. If you are reading this article after skipping your breakfast, then stop reading and grab something to eat immediately!

Back to School With Healthy Lunches

School is just around the corner and teachers, parents and children are preparing for the upcoming first day.
Parents in particular are beginning to think about what their children will eat while in school. I know, those prepackaged lunches look great. They're so easy; just place it in the lunch box with a drink and you're done. Well, yes, they are easy and quick, but are they healthy?
Food is such an important aspect for our health, energy, endurance and alertness (all needed for a good school experience). We want to give our child every advantage and opportunity to make the most out of the school year. So, let's tackle some healthy school lunch alternatives.
By now, we should all know the common 'bad' things to eat, but as a reminder here's a list:
Foods to avoid:
1. White bread
2. Foods with a lot of preservatives
3. Foods with trans fat
4. Foods with High Fructose Corn Syrup
5. Foods with a lot of sugar
6. Processed foods (including most cold cuts)
Okay, some of you might be saying, "But, these are the tasty and fast foods to eat and prepare." Not really. There are many healthy substitutes for lunch and snacks that are fast to prepare and actually taste great. Here are a few:
Choices For lunch:
1. Real turkey sandwich (wheat or whole-grain breads for all sandwiches)
2. Organic Peanut butter (low sugar) with All Fruit spread sandwich
3. Cheese sandwich or cheese on whole-grain crackers (try a goat cheese)
4. Hummus on whole grain crackers
TIP: Look for preservative and nitrate free cold cuts - they're out there!
Choices For snacks and drinks:
1. Raisins or freeze dried fruit
2. Fresh fruit
3. Baby carrot sticks (most kids love this as a snack)
4. Baked chips
5. Homemade cookies with healthy ingredients (you can make a large batch and freeze what you don't immediately use, then take them as needed for a quick and easy snack)
6. 100% Juices
7. Water
Here are a few TIPS to keep those healthy lunches safe:
1. An easy green thing to do is get your child an eco-canteen. Use this instead of buying water and juices in plastic containers. It's healthier for your child and better for our environment.
2. Use reusable plastic food containers to hold your child's lunch. Be sure to, look for the recycling symbol on the container and avoid those with numbers 3, 6, or 7. The containers with these numbers have the highest presence of BPA in them. BPA is a harmful chemical that can move from the container to the food it is holding. If you can find a BPA-free plastic container, that's even better.
3. Do not use worn (scraped, pitted, etc.) plastic containers
4. Wrap cheese and fatty meats (cold cuts and hot dogs) in foil or waxed paper, not plastic. PBA is absorbed more by these foods.
These tips should help you and your child have a healthier school year.
